The government has introduced DIGIPIN, a new digital addressing system developed by India Post in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and NRSC-ISRO. Unlike traditional 6-digit PIN codes, DIGIPIN assigns a unique 10-character alphanumeric code to every 3x3 or 4x4 meter grid across the country, enabling precise location identification—even in remote areas. DIGIPIN, launched under the National Geospatial Policy 2022, is designed to improve logistics, emergency services, and governance by offering address accuracy far superior to conventional methods. Users can generate their DIGIPIN via the "Know Your DIGIPIN" portal, with the system ensuring privacy by storing only geocoordinates without personal data.
